Duke of Edinburgh
What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award all about?
A Duke of Edinburgh (D of E) programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. You just need to be over the age of 14 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by.
Levels
You can do programmes at three levels, Bronze, Silver or Gold (not completed at St James's). These all lead to a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. A nationally recognised qualification.
Sections
You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections:
- Volunteering
- Physical
- Skill
- Expedition
The best bit is – you get to choose what you do!
Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing, and along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
If you need any further information, please contact Mr Leigh, Assistant Headteacher. If you’ve decided to complete an award then find out more info on getting started, choosing your activities and how to complete your award on the Duke of Edinburgh website www.dofe.org
Once completed
When you achieve your Award you’ll receive a badge and certificate. You call also use your evidence in eDofe to create an Achievement Pack. There is a celebration assembly at school with your year group and a Presentation Evening.

Skills Section
Developing a skill helps you get better at something you are really interested in and gives you the confidence and ability to use this skill both now and later in life.
Physical Section
Doing physical activity is fun and improves your health and physical fitness. There’s an activity to suit everyone so choose something you are really interested in.
Expedition Section
Have an adventure, work as a team and act on your own initiative. The school runs all of its expeditions on routes that are both challenging and suitable. The Bronze Award uses sites in Lancashire and the Silver Award uses sites in Lancashire and Anglesey.
