The school restaurant is not just available at lunch time; it is also open during break when students can buy bacon sandwiches, cereal, toast, sandwiches, drinks and other snack items.

Some students may wish bring a packed lunch to school and this can be eaten in the school restaurant.

Cashless Catering

At St James’s we operate a cashless catering system.  Your child will have their own lunch account which can be topped up online at your own convenience.

Further details about cashless catering can be found here.

 Free School Meals

The free school meal allowance is currently £2.50 per day.  This can only be used during the lunch break.

Parents in England do not have to pay for school meals if they receive any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

From 6 April 2012, Working Tax Credit rules for couples have changed and because of the increase in the number of hours a couple has to work in order to qualify, some families may have lost their entitlement to Working Tax Credit. Those families may be entitled to free school meals if they now satisfy any of the above criteria.
